The Backyard Getaway is a family owned and operated service and retail pond & water garden business that grew from a hobby into a passion. Over 14 years ago Dave got the pond "bug" when he purchased his first pond kit. It didn't take long before he was digging a second pond & helping friends & family create their own backyard retreats. Before we knew it the Backyard Getaway was born.
We offer professional pond design, installation, maintenance & renovation services.

Do-it-yourselfers order your pond equipment & supplies here through our online store or call us for local delivery in Manatee & Sarasota Counties. Koi & Aquatic plants are available for viewing by appointment. If you are looking for a pond product, that you don't see on this site, have a pond question or you're not sure where to start, please ask, we will do our best to help you. Do you already have a pond in your backyard? We carry water treatments, lighting, water lilies, aquatic plants, live Koi & koi food.
The Backyard Getaway promotes the water garden lifestyle with Free water garden clinics & hands on pond build classes offered through out the year. Don't miss our annual charity pond tour that features beautiful water gardens & ponds in Manatee & Sarasota counties. History of Ownership:

Backyard Getaway was officially opened in October 2004 by current owners, Dave & Lisa Burns. We started with our retail store located in Sarasota near the Ringling School of Arts after 3 years & the unexpected sale of the building we were leasing we moved our retail locating to Bradenton. All the while maintaining & growing our service business. We decided this past January that it was time to change directions for our company & focus on our pond installation & maintenance services as well as our events like our charity pond tour, classes, yearly makeover contest. We closed the retail store allowing us more time to focus on our customers & opened an online store & now offer delivery to our local customers.

$16,000 Ultimate Backyard Makeover Contest
The backyard makeover contest was offered to homeowners in Manatee & Sarasota counties. The winning backyard received goods & services from 18 local independant businesses including a pond, shed, hydroponic gardens, shade sail, landscape lighting & much more.
The contest ran in August with the winners being chosen in September & the backyard completed in October. We had our reveal party the first weekend of November where we premiered our 1/2 hour video. Premier Video Productions, Inc filmed the entire 4 day makeover & wrapped it all up in a neat 1/2 hour show.
